Day 34 - Olive Garden

One of the best things about children over 21 - when the waiter asks "would you like a sample of the wine?" They say yes and give it to me.

I had Chicken and Shrimp Carbonara - chicken and shrimp with bucatini pasta in parmesan cream sauce with pancetta red peppers baked and topped with seasoned bread crumbs.

The waiter loved his job so much he erupted into song while serving.

Brunch - poppy seed muffin

Dinner - pasta, salad and bread sticks

Snack - plum

Day 31 - Coffee Conundrum

I love the word conundrum.

I was up until very late last night and planed to sleep in. My neighbor's dogs, Chaos and Drama, started yodeling at 5:30 am.

While blearily sitting on the couch waiting for the chime to let me know the coffee was done brewing; Nissa appeared and asked if I'd like her to turn the coffee pot on.

My conundrum this morning was how to make coffee when you need coffee to make coffee.

Breakfast - life cereal with banana

Lunch - stuffed tomato

Dinner - pasta with shrimp and vegetables

Day 30 - A Charcoal Drawing of a Lunch Bag

Tuesday and Wednesday have become very full lately. The charcoal drawing of a paper bag is a symbol of my current hectic life.

Breakfast - a cold hot Italian sausage over the sink

Lunch at 4 pm - 1/2 a Subway sandwich my daughter got for me 2 days ago

Dinner at 10 pm - thank goodness for my honey - cheeseburger patty, salad, asparagus and 1/2 a poppy seed muffin

EDM Every Day Matters Challenge #92 – Draw a brown paper bag

Day 29 - An Oriental Peanut

I drew most of this sketch with a pencil my daughter found. The typical wood portion is rolled up oriental newspaper, what a fun way to recycle.

Breakfast - didn't eat since I brought my lunch

Lunch - didn't eat since I forgot my lunch.

Dinner - called home and my darling hubby had made hot Italian sausage, pasta with veggies, and a salad

Late night snack - poppy seed muffin, peanuts

I was up until 2 last night and forgot to post this before midnight since I was so engrossed with my project.

Day 28 - Back To School Peanut Butter Cookies

It's nice to know I can still help my daughter with her college math homework; I'm amazed how mathematical formulas can stick with you. I can remember the oddest bit of trivia but not where I parked or even notice that I'm wearing my shirt inside out, again.

Breakfast - corn flakes with a sliced banana

Lunch - scrambled eggs and sausage

Dinner - cheeseburger patty, cabbage salad

Snack - Frito's, plum, peanut butter cookies

Lunch - french bread, cheese and meat

Dinner - cheeseburger, cabbage salad

Snack - 1/2 a Kit Kat and a plum

Cabin Food

My husband and dogs are petitioning to go to the cabin. The lawnmower is needed to keep from loosing the dogs in the tall grass, sometimes a machete would be handy.

We have an artesian well at the cabin but we don't drink or cook with it, we always bring up 5 gallon bottles. At the cabin you are aware of water use so it seems so wasteful to let the faucet run when we return home.

The food for today is in the cooler under the water bottle.

Brunch - pancakes

Dinner - cheese burger, corn and salad

Snacks - plums, turtle brownies

Marilyn and Zelda are firmly secured and are in no danger of falling out.

Day 23 - I Spy Hand Doodle

I traced my hand and doodled various pictures and since this is food related I made sure there were menu items included in the ink sketch.

Brunch - Hawaiian beans - recipe soften navy beans and cook with molasses, brown sugar, crushed pineapple, sauteed onion and spam cubes. (I'm wearing a dress from Maui so I was inspired)

Dinner - fish, corn bread with honey, and fruit salad (this is the I Spy portion, I didn't say it was hard to find)

Snack - orange

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Day 22 - Trader Joe's 3 Buck Chuck

I went to Trader Joe's, home of 3 buck Chuck. In California the wine is known as 2 buck Chuck but in Minnesota it's a bit more.

I was inspired by the Hawaiian shirts of the staff so I drew a simple shopping mouse cartoon.

Brunch - sausage, egg, and country potatoes with vegetables.

Dinner - mustgo (Parmesan egg noodles, frittata sliced thin, a dab of chopped onion, leftover asparagus, meatballs, 1/2 a can of tomato paste, the rest of a bag of mozzarella cheese, some american cheese, the remainder of the container of Parmesan cheese) layer ingredients and bake at 375 degrees. Wash a lot of refrigerator containers

The cake looks rather odd but I have a deadline so it's going to have to remain as is...

Day 18 - Fresh Picked Sweet Corn

Local sweet corn is finally available and it was worth the wait. I'm listening to an audio book with a murder committed in a corn field; it was tempting to draw an evil ear of corn but I resisted.

Brunch - odd but tasty casserole with bits of many things excavated from the freezer and a salad.

Dinner - meatballs, oven fries, sweet corn

Snacks - sugar free fudgesicle, craisins, almonds

Thursday, August 13, 2009

Day 17 - Mermaid With Flowing Hair

OK, I know this is a reach but I have 10 minutes left for today. I meant to give her a Swedish meatball top but she decided to become a mermaid. I could try to justify it as the little mermaid but the story is from Denmark, not Sweden so I'm declaring her to have a pancake bra. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Brunch - Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, loganberry sauce and 1/2 slice of chocolate cake.

Dinner - 2 leftover blueberry pancakes

Snack - a bite of princess cake and an apple

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

Day 16 - Pig In A Serape

I made pigs in a blanket but since it was an ambassador hot dog wrapped in a tortilla my daughter said they were pigs in a serape.

You wrap the hot dog in half a flour tortilla, secure it with a toothpick and bake at 400 degrees until the tortilla is crunchy.

Brunch - chicken club sandwich
Dinner - pigs in a blanket
Snack - apple, 1 cup Frito's and 3 cookies

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Day 15 - On Drawn Butter Lake

My daughter exclaimed when she saw this drawing "You made a pretty one!" She was so happy I wasn't doing another evil vegetable.

I drew an artichoke skirted (tutu) ballerina with a lemon head, lemon tree limbs and she's dancing on a lake of butter. I was going to have artichoke for dinner but plans change.

Breakfast - blueberry pancakes

Lunch - leftover chili con queso

Dinner - gyro

Snacks - 1/2 a piece of sinfully good chocolate cake

Monday, August 10, 2009

Day 14 - The Vegetarian Astronaut Landed On The Planet Of Giant Carrots

I'm enamored with the concept of sentient vegetables interacting with humans, particularly vegetarians.

Breakfast - bran flakes with blueberries

Lunch - stuffed tomato

Dinner - cabin hotdish

Snacks - handful of almonds, a cup of Cheetos and 1 1/2 almond cookies (they are almost gone)

How To Build A Pizza

I make simple pizzas by layering flour tortillas, fresh tomatoes with sun dried tomatoes, spicy sausage, mozzarella cheese, and green pepper. Bake at 400 degrees. The tortilla makes a crunchy, cracker like crust.

Breakfast - 1/2 a croissant sandwich with egg, cheese and sausage.

Lunch - Sonic cheeseburger with low calorie cherry limeade.

Dinner - a tortilla pizza

Snacks - blueberries, 1 cup of Cheetos and still another almond cookie. I think elves replenish the box at night.

Cabbage, The Vegetable of Mystery

This spicy vegetable is peering malevolently from behind a cruciferous mask. You can see it's eyes, left ear and chin but the rest of the face is hidden.

We are having a tornado warning now and it's raining like crazy so the sketch is more appropriate than I expected.

Breakfast - pancakes

Lunch - small hamburger

Dinner - 1/2 a deviled ham sandwich

Snacks - Cheetos, wedge of cabbage, blueberries, and the snack that never ends, almond cookies.

How To Make A Rube Goldberg Style Salad

Pour salad dressing over a levered piece of macaroni— which makes the cherry tomato fall—onto a cracker held in place by a toothpick—to a gear made from grapefruit—the tomato hitting the grapefruit causes the gear to spin—striking the chicken leg—the drumstick kicks the radish—the radish rolls off the piece of celery and tips over the carrot—the carrot tilts the kiwi slice—which causes the Swiss cheese to fly into the wedge of bread—the bread tilts making the cucumber roll off onto a carrot slice—the carrot slice tilts and allows the cucumber to roll down the angled carrot—the cucumber lands on the lettuce. Voila! Salad with cucumber.

This was my first attempt at a Rube Goldberg style, mouse trap, drawing. I discovered when doing a Rube Goldberg drawing it's wise to plan it a few steps ahead of the one you are working on. I originally wanted to make it steampunk (hence the geared grapefruit) but the sketch had different plans.

Day 9 - Panda Express Marker Drawings

Brunch - Croissant with Sausage

Dinner - Orange Mandarin chicken, Beijing beef with peppers, lo mein.

I felt like paper and glue today; I think I was influenced by all the back to school supplies everyone is advertising.

Brunch - Bran flakes with a banana

Dinner - Rotisserie chicken with cranberry/orange chutney and a croissant.

Snacks - Cheese doodles, cucumber and apple slices.

Yes, I know this is not a drawing but I think of it as free hand drawing with scissors.

Going In Circles

I don't know how I decided to do circular drawings of food but here it is.

Breakfast - Bran flakes with blueberries. I think the blueberries turned out rather pretty and I was pleased by what I could accomplish by drawing with Crayola Markers

Lunch - Grilled tortilla stuffed with an Ambassador hot dog, chili, cheese, and Fritos.

Snacks - Plum and Almond Cookies

Dinner - Chicken fried steak with sausage gravy, corn, french fries.
